Lake View High School, Bill Dendle Awarded Community Connections School of the Year

Lake View High School and Bill Dendle were presented with the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Community Connections School of the Year Award during a pep rally, on March 27. Lake View and Mr. Dendle received 300,000 online votes for Community Connections School of the Year, beating out 11 other schools who were finalists for the award. During the pep rally, Optimum presented Mr. Dendle with a commemorative trophy and a check for $2,500 which will go to Lake View’s football program, in honor of his support of Lake View.

This includes making a connection,” said Kathleen Preston, Optimum Vice President, General Manager - West Pacific Area. “But most importantly, we want to understand and celebrate what’s important to you. And this is just a fantastic ability for us to show a light and showcase all the excitement we have and all the pride there is in Lake View High School. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of it. So congratulations, Chiefs!" 

Mr. Dendle proudly serves San Angelo ISD as Board Treasurer and is a native of San Angelo’s north side. He grew up attending San Angelo ISD northside schools and graduated from Lake View in 1974. His children also attend Lake View. “This city’s a great place to live, grow up and go to school,” Mr. Dendle said to the crowd gathered in Lake View’s gym for the award ceremony. “I don’t know about you guys, but I think the northside is about the best side.” 

The day’s festivities also included recognitions of student athletes and teams during the Parade of Champions. The Lake View band, cheerleaders, Chiefettes and Mariachi Los Caciques also performed during the pep rally.

“Sports has a large part in keeping the kids involved in the school. From that, it teaches these kids many lessons about teamwork and communication,” Mr. Dendle told Dave Campbell’s Texas Football in an interview. "One of my proudest moments is that I get to participate in the graduation ceremony every year. I get to watch these kids grow up and mature through their careers in sports. As they move forward, I’ve gotten the opportunity to congratulate them and that makes me very proud.”

Last October, Mr. Dendle was presented with the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Optimum Community Connector Award for his service to the Northside community. As part of the recognition of Mr. Dendle, Optimum donated $1,000 to the Lake View High School football program in Bill’s honor as part of their commitment to making a positive impact in the communities they serve.The Community Connector School Program presented by Optimum celebrates committed students, teachers and parents who stay connected in their community year-round.
