Community Partners Join San Angelo ISD for Manos a la Obra Emergent Bilingual Community Resource Night

San Angelo ISD students and families joined community partners and SAISD for a free, family-friendly Manos a la Obra Community Resource Night, on May 14. The event took place at Bradford Elementary and provided SAISD families an opportunity to learn more about the district’s bilingual program and also connected them with helpful and vital resources in the community.

“This year’s events had a remarkable turnout!” said SAISD Director of Emergent Bilingual Christy Diego. “We saw an increase of attendance which indicates a growing interest and engagement. The overall atmosphere felt more vibrant and energetic, likely due to the interest of community resources and communication. Additionally, we have received feedback in the past events that has helped us adjust and make the events more appealing to our families.”

The event also offered activities, book giveaways, snacks and refreshments, free toys and assistance with the registration process for the 2024-2025 school year. About 80 people attended the event, which took place in Bradford’s cafeteria. They watched as Bradford Elementary’s Danzantes de Corazón performed and also listened to presentations from SAISD Director of Emergent Bilingual Christy Diego and the Concho Valley Community Action Agency.

SAISD is pleased to create a connection with community partners through the event, who bring valuable resources that benefit our students and families. Outside the cafeteria, sixteen community partners were set up ready to visit with families and provide them with giveaways and information on programs and services they provide. H-E-Buddy interacted and took pictures with students and families and provided free bouquets of flowers to families, courtesy of H-E-B.

SAISD extends our appreciation to our community partners and resources who joined us to create a fun and impactful event and provide our families with great resources, information and fun giveaways like children’s books in English and Spanish. Special thanks to our very own Lake View High School Ambassadors student group, Adult Literacy Council of the Concho Valley, Alcohol and Drug Awareness Council for the Concho Valley, Angelo State University Association of Mexican-American Students, Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas, Concho Valley Community Action Agency, Concho Valley Regional Food Bank, Education Service Center 15 Early Childhood Intervention, H-E-B, High Sky Children’s Ranch Stay Together Program, Howard College ESL Parent Resources, La Esperanza Clinic, Rust Street Ministries, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, WIC Program, and YMCA of San Angelo.

“Every year we continue to have a bigger turn out and we are excited that our parents want to know more about our community resources we offer here in San Angelo,” said Ms. Diego. “Our parents seemed pleased with the community resources provided for them that evening.”
