Lady Cats win consolation title

SA Standard Times - The Central High school volleyball team won a championship at the Pearland Volleyball Classic, but it wasn't the one they were originally after.

The Lady Cats walked away with the Consolation Flight One Championship with a 3-0 performance Saturday.

The Lady Cats took down San Antonio Clark, Friendswood and Clear Lake at Pearland.

'On the three days we went 6-2, and our losses came down to a matter of 2-4 points total,' Central coach Connie Bozarth said. 'In two of our losses, we actually out-scored those teams on points. I was really impressed with how resolute and relentless we were.'

Kaitlyn Standard was named to the All-Tournament team, the only Lady Cat to earn a spot. The Lady Cats are 19-3 this season and ranked ninth in Class 5A.

'I'm real proud of how we came out here and played,' Bozarth said. We know we can step on the court with anybody in the state, and we know that we can beat anybody.'

The Lady Cats return to San Angelo on Tuesday, when they play Brownwood and Lake View at the Junell Center.
