Day 1: Lady Cats play tough
The lady cats faced a hard first day at their tourney in Killeen Thursday evening. As they faced Pflugerville Hendrickson their first game they took a defeat. Mercedes Lopez led the Lady Cats with 14 points. After, they played a team with a lot of quickness; Waco High. Waco had a lot of quickness, and every time a girl would get tired they always had fresh feet ready. It was two tough losses on the first day but the Lady Cats stay tough throughout the tourney.
Day 2: Lady Cats stay strong
The Lady Cats stay strong throughout the tourney hoping to get a win. They have an early game the next
morning playing Richland, High. Richland, High wasn't as tough as the other teams the Lady Cats had
played the day before and at the end of the game the Lady Cats celebrated a win; 42-39. The same day they
had one more game against Hays. Hays was a very disciplined team, controlled the ball well, and had
barely any mistakes. The Lady Cats took another defeat.
Day 3: Lady Cats split pair at Killeen tourney
The Central High School girls basketball team split a pair of games on the final day
at the Killeen Tournament Saturday. The Lady Cats lost to Killeen Shoemaker
37-27, but rebounded to defeat Richland 42-27. Mercedes Lopez led Central
against Killeen Shoemaker with six points. Nailah Jernigan led the Lady Cats
against Richland with 16 points."We definitely got off to a slow start against
Shoemaker," Central coach Jan Wakefield said. "I think fatigue set in. We played
We just couldn't get the ball in. We bounced back against Richland. We really
executed well. I think it was the best game of the year for us." The Lady Cats will
be back in action Tuesday when they open District 2-5A play at home against
Odessa High.
