Central vs. Amarillo High

The Central High School girls basketball team dropped a 55-33 decision against Amarillo High on the road Saturday in a District 2-5A matchup.

Mercedes Lopez and Shay Warren led the Lady Cats with nine points apiece.

Amarillo led 25-13 at halftime and put the game out of reach with a nine-point advantage in the fourth quarter. Central dropped to 14-16 overall and 7-8 in district.

"We just kind of came unraveled there at the end," Central Coach Jan Wakefield said.

The Sandies (16-13, 10-5) made three straight 3-pointers late in the game to pull away.

Central returns to action on Tuesday when the Lady Cats host Midland High.
