You have obviously had great training, and you seem to be naturally musical.  What a rich experience for me.”

In solo competition, 22 students out of 27 contestants received medals, including 9 superiors and 13 excellent ratings. Gold medals were awarded for superior ratings to Jonathan Ayana, Sarah Caroline Billings, Claire Bryan, Matt Groth, Andrea Maciejewski, Luke Perkins, Zach Schulze, and Logan Wright.  Sheena Gibbons received a superior rating on a piano solo. Silver medals were awarded for excellent ratings to the following students: Alek Alba, Adrian Chapa, Jill Cummings, Kasey Dugger, Sheena Gibbons, Tayler Jones, Mary Lewis, Kelly Linthicum, Kayla Ponder, Michel Tegeler, Marina Velez, Allie Weatherby, and Elizabeth Wells.

The Central Choir Department returned with another outstanding showing at the UIL Choral Concert and Sight-reading Contest held on Thursday, April 9 in Midland.  The Ladies’ A Cappella (non-varsity) and the Combined Men’s Choir (varsity) each received superior ratings in concert from all three judges, while receiving an excellent rating in Sight-reading competition.  The CHS Varsity Women and the Varsity Mixed Choir each received the sweepstakes award, which included superior ratings in both concert and sight-reading competition.  This is the highest award offered for performing the most advanced level of music (5A varsity) anywhere in the state.  This continues a winning tradition in the Central High School Choir Department that includes over forty-eight sweepstakes awards plus thirteen superiors in either concert or sight-reading competition by various Central Choirs over the past twenty years, while Les Cole has been head director.
