Drafting
I is designed for students interested in the technical fields
of engineering, architechture, construction, or any of the
numerous professions which demand a knowledge of technical
drawing. The coursedevelops basic principles of orthographic
projection dimensions, pictorial drawing, single stroke
lettering, geometric construction, section view, and reproduction
of drawings. Basic skills in computer drafting is also a
favorite part of Drafting I. This course is a good good
background for prospective college students who are interested
in the technical fields, as well as students who are interested
in drawing or drafting, Drafting I & II courses articulate
for college credit at Texas State Technical College and
Howard College.

II

Drafting
II is a two-part course. The first part is architectual
drafting. This part surveys materials and methods used in
residential design and construction. Assigned problems include
drawing all the necessary plans for a three-bedroom residence.
These include floor plans, elevations, foundation plans,
plot plans, detail page, wall sections, common architectual
symbols, specifications, and door and window scheduals.
These problems permit development of drafting fundamentals
and skills. Areas of construction include history, legal
application, energy efficiency, security systems, utilities,
perspectives, and sometimes house models. Mechanical drafting
is also a part of Drafting II, as well as machine parts,
section views, Civil Engineering drawings, ect. In Drafting
II, the use of computer aided drafting (CAD) is emphasized.
Students wishing to take this course must possess some basic
understanding of how computers operate. Students successfully
passing two years of drafting should be able to get a good
job as a draftperson and/or be well prepared to pursue college
credit at Texas State Technical College and Howard Colege.
